Initially I enjoyed this game, but after a few plays I have become very dissatisfied with the end bonus cards - a swing of a few coins can make a 50-point swing in scores, and that's just too much of a random factor. In our last game, two players built their initial tickets, then just built cheap (long) connections to run their supply of trains out. And won by a mile. That's not an interesting game for me.

The Netherlands map introduces the toll bridge mechanic that changes the game enough to provide the sensation of a new game, even if it isn't for everybody. It's considerably more cutthroat than the original.

The game-end bonus structure awards points to those who were efficient with their money. Unfortunately, the scale of those points always seems to negate in-game performance. I do not think I've ever played a game where the winner was someone other than whoever scored the 55 point bonus.
