Having played the Old West Map, I am a fan of this version of Ticket to Ride. In fact, it is officially my favorite version of Ticket to Ride. I love how you must branch out from your initial starting position, which reminded me of the Trans Europa and Trans America games which I do like. And I like the cities placement decisions, which add an interesting wrinkle to think about in the basic scoring mechanics of TTR, which I think might make for some interesting replayability IF equally skilled players play, and the final results depend substantially upon where and when you placed your cities. Our game was a six player game, and I like the fact that this expansion allows for six, making the game very interactive and a decent game to pull out when you have six players who want to play a basic to medium euro, along the lines of say Medici. Looking at the France side, it looks like it too could be an interesting play.

This is a great twist on the original game. This does exactly what I want an expansion to do! Adds a few new elements without changing the original gameplay too much. The first change involves every player now having up to 3 cities. You are able to place one at the beginning of the game and then the others can be placed on future turns. The cities provide you with a chance to earn points from other people's routes. This twist presents players with tough decisions. Once the board begins filling up you may be forced to claim a route where you don't earn the points that you have worked so hard for. I thought this change was brilliant! It more decisions to make without overcomplicating the game. The other change is you may only build off of your train, you cannot place route that is not connected to you. Although this restriction was frustrating at times, I felt like this was a restriction that enhanced gameplay. It really required you to rethink some of your strategy. Overall, this is great addition to Ticket to Ride. The combination of cities and train placement make for gameplay with few more decisions to make and strategies to consider. I wonder if after several plays cities will be played in the same spot. I do think once routes become memorized the cities will be rather predictable. However, this isn't a game I see myself overplaying. This is all about the Old West map. I look forward to playing the France side and I wonder if that may even increase my rating to an 8.5. Great game! Highly recommend if you like Ticket to Ride.

Like new, played twice, nobody in my family but me wants to play it again, everyone likes the original or TtR Europe better. We tried the Alvin rules second time through, which improved it a little bit.....
