Set in the vast wilderness of Africa at the height of its exploration by intrepid explorers, missionaries and adventurers, Ticket to Ride Map Collection: Volume 3 – The Heart of Africa, a single-sided expansion map for Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride: Europe, focuses on the central and southern “heart” of the continent displayed in a vertical format.

single sided, which is too bad as previous ones had two maps, and too complicated to make it a TTR game. i.e. no pull the game and play with friends, you have to understand the logic and multiple plays are required to master the additional rules

At one time I would have said this is easily the worst Ticket to Ride map. There are some recent expansion maps that have a side which I find far worse, but I still don't like the Africa map. The map is set up in an annoying way with all the same colors clustered together. The terrain cards are a tedious extra element to the game which don't add enough positives to make up for the opportunities for being mean to other players. It's just too many elements that don't bring the kind of fun I'm accustomed to from Ticket to Ride. This is where I wish they didn't number these expansions, because I hate that there is one I won't bother to keep in my collection, so my shelf doesn't have a nice complete set of numbers.

I bought this for my wife so we could play TTR 4 player. This map just has a lot to be desired and it usually irritates people playing it. There's a lot of interesting ideas, but the color coding of the tracks just ends up getting in the way. Often, the game hits a point where everyone is just drawing cards trying to get enough of one color that now seems to be hard to find. While I like the additional score multiplier mechanic, it just confuses most people who are more intro-level gamers. This puts this game squarely at the 'doesn't really please anyone' category.
