Ticket to Ride has been called a gateway game. I don't know if I agree with that assesment, in my experience, it is more often a plateau non-gamers land on when you refuse to submit yourself to the 200th game of monopoly and suggest playing something a little shorter. It is however, by far my most favorite bridge game, capable of enticing new gamers of nearly any age and experience level with simple rules, while offering ample opportunity for strategic expression for the one or two players on the table who know what they're doing, without inhibiting the fun for the less experiended players too much. I prefer the germany version to the original, though Europe in my opinion trumps them both.

A great map. However, we have house ruled two rules: * For three players we allow two routes to be built on the triple tracks. Otherwise the Ruhr area to the West becomes too unforgiving. * We only score 10 points for the most passengers of one color, and 5 points for second place (compared to the 20 and 10 points in the original rules). Otherwise the passengers become too powerful, at least for three players.
