Seasons is a fine game, but it just leaves me feeling "meh" and it's hard to put my finger on why. Part of the reason is probably that the theme is not very interesting to me, and the theme doesn't feel deeply integrated into the game. On top of that, the decisions in the game aren't that interesting. You rarely have more than three cards in hand, and the results on the dice usually aren't that different. The game utilizes a variety of different mechanics, but doesn't really do anything interesting or unique with them. If I wanted to do card drafting, I'd play 7 Wonders. If I wanted to play with dice, I'd play Castles of Burgundy. If I wanted to do resource management, I'd play Village, or Agricola, or Caylus, or any number of games that do it better. Heck, if I wanted a game with cards, dice, and resources, I'd rather play Stone Age. A lot of people really like this game, but I have a hard time seeing why. It's not a bad game, but for me at least, it's just kind of dull.

I am horrible at this game, but it doesn't keep me from enjoying it. I really appreciate trying to establish synergy between cards. I really enjoy the art too.

There were a metric ton of things that could be done by cards, and it was hard to tie them all together and try to find a working strategy. It didn't seem to require an engine to be competitive, just a couple good combos or a steady diet of high-point items/familiars. Not sure if that's awesome or horrible, but it was fun to play! Traded away my first copy due to not being played enough, but picked up a secondhand copy afterwards since I really did like the game. Ironically, I picked up a third copy in order to get an expansion, so I have a copy for trade. It's complicated. Much like the game, I don't have to be rational.
