Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Games with partnerships offer players a set of rules for alliances and teams. Partners are often able to win as a team, or penalties are enforced for not respecting alliances

Positive player interaction! As the map fills up everyone can gain resources from another players action. While this game is certainly competitive, it does not feel cutthroat as you can never block someone completely from a space. The scoring is unique as well. A great game.

Concordia, as always, is an incredibly thoughtful and elegant game, and I continue to enjoy it more and more as I play it. Venus is a great addition to the system, and though I am a big fan of the additions, they're not really essential to the game. Quinns of Shut up and Sit Down said that if he could run away with one game, it would be [thing=124361][/thing], and I have to agree. It's a transitional design between "OG-style" Euro games and the modern Euros. The spatial board placement is important, but all-out blocking is not really possible -- it's more of a you-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours sort of uneasy tolerance, particularly with building houses before other players, and firing off the Prefect region bonuses. The rules of the game are simple for the amount of depth the gameplay has: really, the most complicated bit is explaining how the scoring is multiplicative. It's a game where it's possible to think two or three turns in advance, but maintains that tactical goodness of responding to how another player has played. When I compare Concordia directly to other collection stalwarts, it comes out way ahead. I would pick it to play over [thing=31260][/thing], [thing=84876][/thing], and [thing=96913][/thing]. I would probably even pick it over [thing=213893][/thing], although now we're sort of comparing apples to oranges. Concordia has no flaws to me. This is what I want in a 2-hour Euro experience, and it's so good that it makes me wonder if I can safely purge some of the aforementioned games. This leaves me with no choice but to rate Concordia a '10:' it's in my top 10 and is the class of its division: truly, my favorite modern Euro game (thus, excluding the OG German Euros). A bit about Venus: The Magister smooths the game out in a really interesting way, allowing you to double up on one of your own cards. Additionally, the new Venus region scoring is a really interesting alternative to someone who doesn't branch out as much to land the Saturnus bonus. I have yet to try the teams variant but would love to give it a whirl. Rated 8 in August 2018 Rated 9 in July 2021 Rated 10 in November 2021

The fact that everyone starts from the same area makes interaction available since turn 1. You're constantly adapting your strategy, will you invest your hard earned resources into a new house? or will you spend that resources to buy a new action card in the senate? You must find an equilibrium between cards and houses but always keep an eye on what other players are doing
