Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

This is a good Euro game, I like that all the action happens on one central board as opposed to player boards, the map is really important, and the card market is reminiscent of Pax Porfiriana.

The card action selection is pretty cool as you start off with the same deck of cards and eventually acquire more cards over the course of the game that are improved versions or allow you to take more of the action. The hard part is deciding when to get your cards back as you you essentially lose a turn. The gameplay is very tight as there is not a lot of spaces to claim before having to pay more. It’s also difficult to determine the best path as there are multiple good actions. Getting expensive material cities gives you some money when you sell while lower brick ones give you resources that are required the rest of the game. The setup is variable so each game will be a different priority on where you move to and which provinces or point cards are the priority. The other cool thing is the card actions you acquire give you multiples when you score. We found that some of them we scored identical each one but sometimes you can pull off a victory by being the one to grab that extra card that matched your strategy. The rules are a few pages, nice big board and lots of wooden player components. I could see the maps tiring after some time but they have so many to pick from in expansions. Very solid game.

2016-02-25 Concordia is an excellent game in which the key is to phase your own actions so that you are always one step ahead of other players' but in sync with yours. The game revolves around constructive actions that all inevitably take the game closer to its finish. There are no negative actions, which creates an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Player interaction is based on blocking, leeching and being the first to do something. And the game is very interactive, it just is not of the "In Your Face" type. After the game you have a feeling that you actually accomplished something since, you can see everything you bought right in front of your eyes. And you can achieve quite a bit, which is refreshing after all the games with very tight economy. The dramatic arc has a nice curve and the game picks up some speed towards the end in an predictable manner. I have to admit that the theme is rather generic and the game does not look exciting at all. If you can get past this, Concordia offers an enjoyable experience in hand and resource management. It is not a revolutionary game in any way, or a game that will be found in every home for that matter, but it simply works like a charm.
