Enjoyed 1st game, but ran into a huge run-a-way leader problem during the first playthrough that clouded the experience.

In the base game, black cubes - out of the bag - act like a buffer to your own coloured cubes being pulled. The buffer gives you time to get your deck building engine moving. The expansion makes black cubes activate schemes (which are mostly bad things that happen). There are some interesting and fun-sounding ideas in this expansion which definitely make the game harder. While I like the expansion, it adds complexity in there is another thing I have to think about. It's not a deterrent to playing the expansion because its not major complexity added. I just enjoyed the simplicity of black cubes being a buffer. While I will always play with the new cards, I may not always use the schemes - AND the rules in the expansion make room for this type of play! So while I like the expansion, it is not a necessity to enjoying Clank! In! Space! However, if you want more module tiles, get the expansion. More variability is a welcomed addition.

This expansion doesn't complicate the game or make the base game any better. For someone who plays the game a lot I can see changing the boards & adding something new would be welcome.
