A well designed, mechanically sound game that does absolutely nothing for me. Suffers from a tough on-ramp, falling into the same trap that many Eklund games do by being excessively elaborate with terminology, but then compounds it by making poor choices about communication to the player. The game vomits symbology at the player, without providing easy references and guides. The pursuit of making the game language independent has meant that it sacrifices too much usability. The core gameplay isn't actually that challenging, but there are a lot of interlocking pieces. The biggest issue I have, once you pass the learning hurdle, is that the game is incredibly constraining, yet you can't do much in the way of planning when it isn't your turn... and downtime can be long. If the whole group wants to play it, I wouldn't protest, but it's not a strong player in the waters in swims in.

Beautiful production, excellent theme, and over before you start to feel overwhelmed or bored (or even ready!). It's a perfect medium/heavy strategy game. That it's team versus team is even better-- if you have friends that are overly skilled at multiplayer solitaire games like MindClash's also-excellent Trickerion, this at least levels the playing field a little bit, while still providing that angst-inducing strategic decision, just shared. Will your person end up optimistic, morose, or somewhere in between? The result is another fun story-moment to relish at game's end.

Played through 2 handed by myself to learn this beast. I love games with dense rules and this one has that in spades. I have not gotten it to the table yet but I hope to soon...
