Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.
Variable Player Powers
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

Playing at 2-player felt a bit too loose, there wasn't a lot of competition for spots if both went different directions (church or black market). This is likely due to not knowing the intricacies of the game, but it still felt disappointing. I suspect that with higher player counts, there would be some tension and competition and more emergent gameplay, but I wasn't thrilled with the two 2p plays to invest the time in hopes that it becomes better. Would not need to own, might play again.

A light game for sure. The strategies are a bit obvious but the board state changes constantly that you have to think on how to get there. The player interaction in this game is superb for a worker placement game. The push and pull between players is engaging without being overtly "take that".

A neat take on worker-placement with a very cool "push your luck" virtue element. Definitely simpler than Paladins of the West Kingdom, but still thinky while having quick turns. Fortunately it doesn't end too quickly so you have plenty of time to bring your plans to fruition. And the variable player powers bring it to the next level! Still, not a LOT of deep replayability until you add an expansion. This is perfect for somebody who wants something more interesting than Stone Age but doesn't want to be challenged TOO much. As an added bonus the AI -- like in all the other Garphill Games I've played so far -- is smart, fast, and interactive. It can also be used as a third player!
