Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.
Set Collection
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

There's something special about how this games worker placement works. It just sings to me the way each turn is so quick. Feels very thematic for a mechanical euro. You feel like you're raiding and the mechanisms really tie it together. the Valkyries are my favorite touch. shem can do no wrong in my eyes if his name is involved and it's worker placement I'm in. This game sets the bar for me in worker placement

Definitely outstanding, easy rules to teach and to learn, all the actions make sense with the viking theme. Perfect playing time of 60-80 minutes and incredible art.

After playing again, I started to grasp some of the strategies and was also able to see the strategies of the other players based on the choices they were making. I like this as a fairly flexible, mid-weight worker placement game, and would gladly play again. Have played with 2 and 4 players, each was fun in different ways. 2 player was a tight race that required strategy, while 4 player had more chaos and required different tactics/strategies to be competitive (as more raids are done by people other than you). I wouldn't need to own it, as my family isn't yet too interested in worker placement. Cons: There's basically no theme, you're gathering cubes and trading them for things. There's a few turns right away where you don't really feel like anything you do is meaningful (pure prep work). It is absolutely horrible at 5 players (with expansion), as the board state changes so much between your turns that there isn't much point in planning ahead (increasing downtime and randomness).
