T.I.M.E Stories is a narrative game, a game of “decksploration”. Each player is free to give their character as deep a “role” as they want, in order to live through a story, as much in the game as around the table. But it’s also a board game with rules which allow for reflection and optimization.

Smart, abstracted mechanics and nice production values give life to the adventure scenario - all the more if you relate impressions (as the rules suggest) instead of just read aloud or show cards. Fun for a few hours if you allow yourself to be pulled into the story, but unfortunately, the first mission is marred by a few bad decisions in puzzle layout leading to frustrating restarts when running out of 'time units' due to no wrong doings, just poor die rolls. Also, the first mission hides critical elements in a few obtuse locations. While clever in construction, the main puzzle solution is ridiculous as it sadly pulls you out of the story completely. So a mixed bag and in the end, an unsatisfying experience for me. I would play another mission, but am not anxious to do so.

[i]2016/11/27 - 3 plays - 4p[/i] The mechanics are slick, but running through the same story several times was a killer for me. I will roleplay instead of playing this game any day.

The promise of the base game did not live up to the additional stories. Similar to the Choose Your Own Adventure games, I don't really enjoy replaying the same story over and over again until I win it. Kind of a shame I bought everything for it :/
