Based on the award-winning Betrayal at House on the Hill board game, in Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate you’ll return to Baldur’s Gate again and again thanks to the fifty included scenarios only to discover it’s never the same game twice.
Can you and your party survive the madness, or will you succumb to the mayhem and split (or slaughter!) the party?

Although the theme is more fun, my experience was the same as with the original Betrayal at House on the Hill. This is not necessarily a bad game, but I have never had a session (10+ sessions?) that I truly enjoyed. 1) It relies a lot on 'push your luck' with items/omens. 2) The Escalation is unbelievably unbalanced, one way or another. We have never had an exciting game with any tactical decisions; the ending was always a steamroll. I love the theme of the game and the essence of the gameplay, but the execution is very poor in my opinion.

New skin on an old broken game. Still broken, but I realize you play for the experience. Still, it never feels good to be at the mercy of the game even if it gives the illusion of choices. I also really don’t appreciate having my goals changed halfway through so that I’ve been working counter to my ultimate goal until the point I realize I’ve done such a good job at it that I can’t win.

Initial Impression: After my first game I can confidently say that this game feels very much like a retheme of Betrayal at House on the Hill. Please refer to my comments from that game as they all pertain to this one. Personally, I was a little disappointed that the publishers didn't even bother for a clean retheme. The Omens and Haunts are still referred to as Omens and Haunts. Personally, I feel that the game works a little better as a horror than as a fantasy theme. Either way, it's an enjoyable, light game that I would play but not too often.
