Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.

Arkham Horror: the Card Game is an awesome crossover between RPG and card game, thriving in atmosphere and character development. No need to point out that expanding the card pool (both with new scenarios and new investigator cards) is a great way to keep it fresh and enticing! The Forgotten Age is a deluxe expansion, introducing the fourth campaign for the game. It contains 5 new investigators (with different deckbuilding options), including the expedition leader Leo Anderson, the bootlegger Finn or the Explorer Ursula Downs, but also a bunch of new and interesting players' cards, and two new scenarios, that lay the foundation for an entire new (8-scenarios-long) campaign that will be continued in the next six Mythos Packs.

I wouldn't be surprised if, down the line, this frustrating mess wasn't remembered as the cycle that killed the golden goose that was Arkham:LCG. I went from having trouble finding the packs because they were selling like hot cakes, to finding discounted bundles pretty easily.

Not my favorite, not because it's difficult (though it is) but because many of the rules on the cards and in the scenarios are extremely hard to decipher.
