Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

This feels like a revisit to the deluxe box (including being a two part scenario, with part one being repeatable) and lets you "fix" some of the difficulty in the scenario before it, but that also means it doesn't feel like it's doing much new - and there's no real story. So it's not a bad scenario(s), it's just boring and does nothing new aside from the two part structure, which also really does nothing new other than carry over vengeance between part A and B and prevent you from spending xp between two separate shorter scenarios. The player cards have a few outstanding cards (Lola Santiago is a class defining ally, Ornate Bow created all new archetypes, and Premonition, Take Heart and Olive McBride all see regular play) but otherwise range from niche to truly dreadful (look at you Intrepid, Expose Weakness and Against All Odds.)

This is a continuation of the previous scenario, sort of. Your performance in the previous scenario greatly affects what happens in this scenario. In fact, you might be able to skip half of this scenario if you did especially well in the previous scenario. It’s possible to go through the first half of the scenario repeatedly. This was odd and new but a little boring.

I love this game in general, but some of the TFA scenarios are really tough. I'm much less of a fan of the ones (like this one) where you play until you expire and see how much you can accomplish.
