Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing

This is a fairly simple set up for a scenario that feels like it has a lot of variance but kinda doesn't (at least, not without a Return). Further, the way the keys work there's a reasonable amount of luck and some triggers that are unlikely to ever come up or matter, which are some minor nitpicks. That said, the introduction of vehicles continues the trend of the Innsmouth Conspiracy doing new things with it's scenarios and somehow manages to make a fairly large map feel completely claustrophobic and like you're constantly under pressure from the Deep Ones. The player cards are a bit of a mixed bag, but mostly winners. Keen Eye(0) and Blood Pact(0) finish the cycle started from the Investigator starters and they, might, see some edge play. The rest do new and interesting things, though I don't expect any to become standout staples. Radiant Smite seems to be the biggest winner and is going to be critical to most bless builds, and Abyssal Tome has some potential to do some crazy things with a doom build.

Great Scenario We made it a bit easy for us, as we played the boat entering/leaving wrong without limiting it to once per round, but the randomness was quite right

The Innsmouth Conspiracy - Episode 3 We get our first vehicle - a boat - and it can move all the investigators at once. And it works well with an interesting new map shape. The map is a hub with five spokes. And each of the five spokes spawns its own little archipelago of locations. More keys to be used and more flashbacks to be gotten. Enemies are manageable, with the focus being on the clue and key hunt over what ends up being a pretty vast expanse.
