Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management

Rating based on - 5 plays, 2 player Set in the comic book universe, Vs System 2PCG: The Marvel Battles is essentially a 2 player head to head combat game that can also be played with up to 4 players, and there are certain other variants included such as 2v2. Each player starts off with a Level 1 Main Character (Captain America, Magneto, Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, Spider Man, Groot, Professor X etc.) and a deck of 60 cards filled with supporting characters, plot twists and locations. During the game you will gain experience points (XP) that help you to level up your character to Level 2 and become even stronger with more superpowers. On your turn you draw 2 cards, recover any stunned characters, ready all of your characters, build up your resources so you can recruit characters and then rearrange them in rows to prepare for combat. In the combat phase you can play plot twists and engage in individual melee or ranged combat with melee combat applying to the characters set in your front row, and ranged applying to those in your back row, unless your opponent has a character with the power of flight in their front row which protects their back row from attacks. Characters can also team up with other characters to build up their attack value. When characters are attacked they automatically hit back to defend themselves and both the attacker and defender may end up stunned. If a character is stunned enough times that he exceeds his health points he is KO'd. The goal of the game is to KO your opponents' main character and the game ends when one main character is left standing. The player that controls it is the winner! Basically I can't find much to say about it because there's not much there. You are playing with a main superhero and supporting characters, trying to mix it up with plot twists, and basically trying to beat your opponent to death. *shrug* I didn't feel like it was all that special. With all the theme and lovely graphics I thought it would almost have a comic book feel to the gameplay (remember 60s Batman? *biff* *pow* *bang* etc.? I was expecting some of that kind of feeling), but in actuality you bring a guy out, compare numbers to see if you can take out an opponent, rinse and repeat. So even if you start off by saying that Hulk appears, by the end it's a whole lot of "my 7/6 takes out your 5/3". I got it in because I love head-to-head card games and superheroes, plus it was available at an amazing sale price so it would be churlish to say no, :) but I didn't find it as interesting or combo-rrific as Seasons, as dynamic and engaging as Summoner Wars, or as clever as Day & Night. Just felt very basic. Status: TRADED for Off the Rails

With the Defenders, Shield vs. Hydra, New Mutants, Monsters Unleashed, Legacy, and A-force. Also Predator Battles and Alien Battles I am questioning whether or not I'm going to play this. It looks like a pretty generic card game. purged

Marvel Vs. is a fun game, but it had stiff completion from my other LCGs/CCGs. It wasn't going to get to the table much, so I took advantage of an opportunity to flip it.
