Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Review: I’ll write a longer review in a more APT location, but this game has seriously only gotten better and better. At first, it felt like simplified VS System, but it has really grown in terms of its elegance—unlike most expansions, it’s RARELY just more of the same—especially their annual crossover packs (more on that in a full review. Simply put, it is the best Marvel Game that has ever been made in terms of abilities reflecting theme. That said, there is absolutely no sacrifice of quality mechanics for theme. I will say that, in retrospect, it’s actually good that the base set is so basic because it has gotten more complex, but bot like the original VS SYSTEM. The original VS System, while amazing did suffer from pushing away new players—I won’t get into that here, but I will say that the increase complexity still avoids from being overwhelmed by building 1 deck from a giant card-pool. staying within 1 or 2 affiliations within a deck is both thematic and advantageous. I will write a real review at some point, but I did want to put this out there, especially to original VS players, that this game is good—really good—and clearly, like the original, a labor of love by the creators. Sleeves: 1. SK - SCG 2. Main Characters - Color (Glossy) ^SILVER ^GOLD*/YELLOW ^WHITE/QUICKSILVER ^BLUE NEXT: 7 1. Crossover vol. 2 2. Spidey-Foes 3. Webheads 4. The Herald 5. Darkness & Light – Masters of Evil 6. Heroes of Krakoa - X-Force 7. Fractured Family

Love this game. Really streamlined the old ruleset into something that doesn't suck after Turn 4, and the mechanics are interesting and varied. Recommended for all that love card games (particularly Magic).

I initially scored this game low, back when it came out. After adding some expansions, which I picked up on clearance, the game has improved. Improved doesn't mean that I now love the game, but I enjoy playing it every once in a while, as long as I'm with the right person/people. I'm glad this game moved out of the TCG category. I had to quit investing in more than one TCG, because I decided that being homeless, and penniless wasn't going to be a good look for me. Having a roof over my head, and food in my belly is slightly better than cracking open booster packs. Anyway, I've changed my rating.
