Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

Oceania nerfs eggs while making food and cards easier to get. The other features are enjoyable without getting too complicated. Despite the new balance on eggs, I don't think this is a necessary expansion, (at least not to start with). It's been a good refresh for us so far after 50+ games with the base game and EE, though Oceania makes the game 'easier' (less tight which I'm not sure is ultimately a good thing) and with definite point creep. Saying all that, I especially enjoy the new bird powers with game end bonuses. Nectar as wild is ok but the end-game bonuses seem tacked on. We play all cards in, which is a shuffling pain but I don't mind. I do appreciate that they made some effort for an expansion that changes things up rather than just more cards. All plays are recorded in base game.

Nectar is the only addition that substantially alters the game. It does open up options if the bird feeder just doesn't have what you want, but taking available nectar as the wild resource that's worth bonus points does seem like too obvious a choice.

This expansion feels like a version 1.5 due to the introduction of a new player board. Gaining food and Drawing cards got considerable buffs as actions while gaining eggs got a modest nerf. The combined effects make a most of the birds from the base game and first expansion feel much stronger. This expansion also features nectar, which acts as a transient and wild food that can also earn players points based on how much of it they spend in each habitat. Many birds with difficult food costs to pay are much easier. Further, many new birds award nectar with their brown/pink powers. End of game powers, much like end of round powers, feel situational but not necessarily the rush to play them early or not at all. By changing the nature of the board, the birds of wingspan have a better place to thrive in more diverse and exciting engines. A must have expansion.
