I was kind of shocked at the rules load of this expansion. Did we really need this many rules? I think it could have been done with a lot less, with much more of the heavy lifting done with cards of various kinds.

I like the new dice, new characters, and new powers of the Elven rings. This expansion doesn't change the original game dramatically. It's like the same original game but with more stuff you can do. This expansion fits into War of the Ring in a natural, seamless way. The expansion isn't something I'd use 100% of the time. Merely for the sake of variety. I mean, I'd be happy to play without it, or with it, just to make different varieties of games. While I'm talking about variety, this expansion includes some juicy stuff to make the Free Peoples more capable of getting a military victory.

Not necessary since the base game is so great, but as a big fan of the game and Lord Of The Rings fan this expansion really brings out the characters and theme. Makes my favorite game even greater.
