Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

My other favorite set of Unmatched boxes, Cobble and Fog is a hit every time! Classic characters, and powerful cards. If I had to choose one set for life it would either be this or Legends Vol. 2!....My answer could change any given day between the two of them!

Unmatched has steadily improved as it's gone along, and if this is an indicator of what we can expect from future editions of the game, we're in for a treat. One of the reasons this works is that all four characters feel like they actually belong in the same game. But I also enjoy the variety of playstyles, with Sherlock Holmes and Invisible Man being among my favorites they've made. It also feels much better balanced. If you haven't a version of this yet, this is the one to get.

I don't know why we haven't played this game more than we have. It's easy to get to the table and would reward repeat plays. But for some reason it never comes up into our heads when we sit down to play, which is too bad as I've really enjoyed my two plays. I managed to win as Sherlock Holmes, but was defeated as Jekyll/Hyde. I need to try both characters again and we should try combining our different Unmatched sets.
