Pattern Building is a system where players place game components in specific patterns in order to gain specific or variable game results. For example: placing chips on 2, 4, 6, 8 on a board gets the player an action card they can use later in the game.

The best expansions add to gameplay without changing the game. Tiny Towns: Fortune expands on the base game in two ways. 1.) The addition of coins might make it easier to get the resources you need, but in an effort to simultaneously build to earn those coins you might just trip up your own plans. And 2.) More building cards. Give me more building cards. I want AEG to just make an expansion deck of building cards to add even more variety.

Expansion ranking: necessary-nice-needless. The generic mechanism by which to acquire coins is to build multiple buildings at the same time. Because larger buildings occupy 25%+ of your Town at once, this incentivizes and powers the already powerful ur-strategy of Cottage-spam (and those coins make it even easier to shrug off unwanted Stone and Wood if Cottages are the only desirable building). - My monument deck currently has removed: Shrine of the Windseed

This expansion worked for us and made the game more enjoyable for my two teenagers who felt frustrated by the original game when they got too many cubes they couldn't use.
