Rating after playing the Old West map. Solid tweak to the system! Honestly I tend to play by expanding my existing routes anyway, but this now telegraphs to others what cards you want and where you might expand. Great addition to the TTR collection. Update: and with one play of the France map, I can say this might be my favourite map expansion. Both maps shake up the game in a novel way. Highly recommended for any TTR Fans that want a challenge for more experienced players.

I've only played the France map and it's...fine. The twist of adding colors to the lines appears to be a huge change to the core mechanic but it just doesn't really shift the strategies all that much. It mostly just feels like another TTR map but now with this extra action you have to take that slows the game down. The juice isn't really worth the squeeze here.

France should not get top billing on this expansion. That map is a train wreck (pun intended) that I hope to never play again. Adding an extra step and decision point to every single turn where players take train cards is just a horrible decision. It slows the game down to a crawl, and half the time someone doesn't even care or know what color to make tracks so they just throw down random tiles hoping they'll luck into more of that color. So bad! On the other hand Old West is a treat. I love how it mixes up the way people build, and the limitations it creates by stopping people from jumping all over the board. It forces you to plan ahead with where you place your initial city, and there are additional opportunities to throw down a city to block opponents or force them to give you points. This map makes this expansion a keeper.
