The France map is quite challenging with its "select the color of the track" mechanism. It's easy to block yourself by selecting the wrong color. My oldest grandson does *not* like this map! The rest of us do. We still "need" to try the "Old West" side.

France should not get top billing on this expansion. That map is a train wreck (pun intended) that I hope to never play again. Adding an extra step and decision point to every single turn where players take train cards is just a horrible decision. It slows the game down to a crawl, and half the time someone doesn't even care or know what color to make tracks so they just throw down random tiles hoping they'll luck into more of that color. So bad! On the other hand Old West is a treat. I love how it mixes up the way people build, and the limitations it creates by stopping people from jumping all over the board. It forces you to plan ahead with where you place your initial city, and there are additional opportunities to throw down a city to block opponents or force them to give you points. This map makes this expansion a keeper.

Old West: After the original dealing of tickets, players choose a home town and builds outward from there. Players can't just connect any two cities. This is an intriguing dilemma. Plus this can be played by six players.
