Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Ok expansion for Marco Polo but the mini board I can take or leave. Love some of the new characters but hate the companions as they seem to just add a ton of reading and time as it's really important to know which ones are out.

The additional characters are always welcome. After that, it's a bit overwhelming. The companions are a neat idea but maybe too much to keep up with. The Venice map works well, but it changes the dynamics of the trading posts and really alters the way you view some of the original characters that focused on traveling and placing trading posts. It also can cause some unintended powerful combos with someone like Alton Ord due to the increased ease of placing trading posts. Not an essential expansion for sure. Being modular helps. I will not play with it all the time and probably only parts of it even then.

The expansion adds new characters and a module for agents who offer more options which can ease the game for beginners. The new Venice game board is okay. I think they added it to support 5 players, but it is not a must-play for lower player counts. Player: 2-5 Time: 40-100m
