Smash Up: Munchkin
30m - 45m
2 - 4 Players
Ages 12+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Maneuvers that directly attack an opposing player's strength, level, life points or do something else to impede their progress.
Take That
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Love Smash Up, did not love the mechanics and monster/treasure cards added in this expansion. These decks do not play well with out-of-expansion bases or factions, in my opinion.

Not one of the best Smash Up expansions but by no means a weak addition to my Geeky Box. As long as you actually use the bases that implement monsters the new races and classes can be entertaining. This might even be a nice gateway into the other expansions for someone who really love the "Take That" appeal of Munchkin but wants to branch out a bit.

So far I've played one game with only Munchkin races. That took too long. The monsters and treasures are fun, but it just adds too much complexity for this level of strategy. I will try it with the Munchkin races mixed in with the other sets. For the record, I thought the original Munchkin game was hilarious - for 15 minutes. I will never play it again, but I might browse the cards. I have much higher expectations from Munchkin Smash Up. :-)
