Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.
Dice Rolling
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

A really fun game with lots of variability in the setup. Unfortunately, there are some issues with luck that drop its rating down a couple points for me.

Fine game, but it doesn't have anything new to offer. Even though I would play it again, I would never buy the game, as I own "Arena: Roma II" which was much cheaper and got a much more interesting dice mechanism. As "Shaolia" doesn't work too much with the position of the cards, they get boring really fast. In "Arena: Roma II", the positions are very important and due to that, the game will always be different in any way. "Shaolia" is just very basic in comparison.

Kinda lucky need to roll the dice and draw the right cards. definitely a 2 player game, can't imagine it at 3 or 4, seems like it would be off balance. Like that you can play different variations. However in the end it is a dice rolling battle game. We always compare these to Star Relams and Star Relams always wins.
