Fun, but I don't need to own this. Josh sang this game's praises, and I'm usually game for any sort of game with a random event deck. Game.

This is an excellent game. I suspect the designer got a lot of his ideas from Sid Meier’s Pirates, the video game. This game is a sandboxy dice rolling luck-fest.

I got this based on the strength of hype from those who claim it is better than the classic [thing=235][/thing]. This one lacks King's Commissioners, a lot of realism (at a cost of additional rules), historical pirates, and a broader scope for pirating (America & African coasts), but it is a simpler game with easy rules, good looking components, fast play, and its own interesting narrative. The one thing I didn't like about the game is that it seemed like it was easier to win with a merchant than a pirate. Boring! Pick up and deliver games are dull as dirt. But the Woelf solo rules fix that and make this into a solid solitaire game!
