Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Play occurs upon a modular board that is composed of multiple pieces, often tiles or cards. In many games, board placement is randomized, leading to different possibilities for strategy and exploration. Some games in this category have multiple boards which are not used simultaneously, preserving table space. Unused boards remain out of play until they are required.
Modular Board
Variable Phase Order implies that turns may not be played the same way as before and/or after.

One playthrough 2p: Great feel, tension and strategically interesting. A lot of ways to manipulate how you and others advance the game through drafting and playing cards, which feels well balanced in strength. Amazing art. Would love to play more and with higher play count.

Fun fun fun! Strongly suspect this tight and intense game will become a 9 after a few more plays. Edit: It's now a 9. What a great game! Rules are not super intuitive, but fortunately they are rather few. So are the components. Central to the game are the 13 one-off action cards. These are re-drafted every round and constitute the engine behind the game. They allow exploration (expanding the board with more tiles), movement of pawns, access to other cards etc. A multilayered area control game that is definitely more than the sum of its parts. Reminds me somewhat of Blood Rage but feels a bit more abstract and less battle oriented. Not less conflict, however. Inis is a VERY interactive game. Great with three or four. Have yet to try it with two players. It's noteworthy that in this "ancient history" themed game, the male characters on the illustrations look like musicians from psychadelic rock bands while the female characters look like 80's hair models.

A clever strategy game that always seems to end in close matches. The cards-as-actions helps speed up gameplay while the "pass-as-action" mechanic feels unique and fun. However, with two players Inis is a bit too cutthroat to be fun.
