Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
The primary goal of a set collection mechanic is to encourage a player to collect a set of items.

The more I think about Spice Road the more it bugs me. Continuously upgrading the cubes using the same few cards in your deck and the only combo you can build from them. There's a more than likely chance that the row of new cards in the shop are so useless that the whole game is played with only a few of them bought. So it becomes a game of who got the only worthy advanced cards to their hand and who happens to have the combo needed to attain the victory points. It's also clear around halfway through if you're going to win or not. The person ending the game ends up with more point cards than the rest so it's very likely that player will also win and thus the points on the cards are almost secondary turning the game into a race. Although not a bad game, I actively avoid it in all its incarnations. The only thing Spice Road has going on for it is the card play similar to Concordia. I'd like to see it used in better games.

I have only played this 2 player and think it would be better with more. Nonetheless, we play it often and I really enjoy it. Make sure to get a variety of cards producing colours and you're good.
