The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Dice rolling in a game can be used for many things, randomness being the most obvious. Dice can also be used as counters. The dice themselves can be unique and different sizes, shapes and colors to represent different things.

Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.

Really good campaign style game with a SUPER fun level up system. Be aware, if you buy the hero pack 1 expansion, there is a bona-fide infinite combo you can create with the time mage and you will likely need to house rule it out unless you just want to watch the game burn in 10 minutes.

Story was a bit lacking, but besides that, this was a very refreshing take on this style of game. Its hard not to compare this game to gloomhaven, and in comparison overall I find this game more fun with more players as turns tend to move more quickly and actions don't take as long to mull over.

Great Character creation, but that is the only great thing. All the other stuff is a mixed bag: some fun bosses, some down right frustrating, weak ending, non- existent story for better or for worse, some light choose-your-own-adventure-elements, which are fun but for my taste too sparsely used and awful rules, this includes how the rulebook is written but also the boss encounters ( missing rules, poor lay-out, referencing things that were part of the first edition despite beeing the second edition rulebook, ambigious or unclear boss behaviour, etc. ) To tally things up: For most of the time I had fun despite the things that hampered it, but it is still very hard to overlook the flaws during play. Especially knowing that I own the second edition, which should be a much more refined version
