In the game Reef, players take on the role of the reef itself, alternating turns in which they carefully select the colors and patterns in which to grow and expand — the more beautiful the reef, the more points they score!

My 11 year old gets his brain stuck on the fact that the purple reef pieces look to have different shapes depending on how they are orientated on the table so much so I have now jokingly referred to the game as reefer. Quick turns, stack those points, try score a landslide of points at games end. Really enjoy.

Combined into one box: First and Second Edition along with Kings of Coral expansion. Fun simple game using spatial ingenuity and hand management. Some poo-poo it as "parts thrown together to make a game", but I enjoy it. So much so that our group already owned a copy, but I wanted one for my own collection. Can be easily played at the pub. Update 2022: it doesn't hit the table much anymore. And I can always borrow my buddy's copy. As I am trying to limit my collection, I have to make painful cuts and this one was right on the bubble. Who knows, I MIGHT rebuy this one down the road, but for now, I think we can go our separate ways to see other people. Update Mid 2022: The member of the game group who owned it moved away, so this is staying. I actually got this to the table for a 2 player session and once the other player knows what they are doing, it’s like “Speed Reef”. The last 2 games we knocked out in close to 10 minutes each. This game seems to only hit the table every year or so, but when it does we all go: “this is such a quick and enjoyable experience despite the wins and losses”. #REEFermadness Status: The Collection

Very fun, very simple, very well-produced and designed game. It looks like a think-y abstract, but plays quite smoothly. The chunky pieces elevate the game so much!
