Card drafting games are games in which players pick cards from a limited subset, such as a common pool, to gain some advantage (immediate or longterm) or to assemble hands of cards that are used to meet objectives within the game.
Card Drafting
Deck building/Pool building refers to a collection of related mechanisms. Players have a personal pool, or collection, of cards or tokens, that provide different actions and/or resources. A subset of those cards/tokens are randomly drawn each turn.
Deck / Pool Building
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Almost a perfect game and maybe in my top ten....the problem is i dont like it at three: we all just choose a direction and spread that way. After TM, This is the very best of my games with player count issues, but as always, if you dont play well at three i gotta dock you cuz you wont get to the table as often

I really want to love it, but I'm just not wowed by the 2p game. The board was loose, even on so-called 2p maps, and interaction therefore minimal, although the ability to use your opponent's cards is a nice touch that extends your deck. Experience thus far has been "s/he who nabs the 7-point Concordia card wins." Which is decidedly Not Fun after 90 minutes of gameplay. Decent game. Not magical, and probably better with 4-5, which would surely make for a tighter, more competitive board. However, I'm unlikely to see that player count very often, if ever. Now Also With: 2 expansion boards. Hoping this will tighten up the lack of interaction that plagued the base game maps. (NARRATOR: It doesn't. Yes, it's an easy-to-grok, puzzly little piece of multiplayer solitaire. Just not one that I want to continue exploring. Ultimately murdered to death by our 2024 2p 10x10.) Imperium (base): 5p Italia (base): 4p Germania (exp1): 6p Brittania (exp1): 2-3p Creta (exp3): 2p Aegyptus (exp3): 2-3p

Initial thought after 1st learning play, (July 2023). Feels a bit dated but a nicely balanced game. I can see the appeal. More plays are needed to see how it fits our sweet spot in Euro games. Update after 8 plays (one on Britannia), up'd my rating to a '9'. The amazing rules simplicity and depth of play proves this It was everything they said it would be!
