Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril

Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

Awesome mini version of Sleeping Gods, very happy to have it in my hoard of Red Raven games :) very easy to play after about 10-15 mins of reviewing the rules if you remember how to play the original game, and this is likely even faster if you have played distant skies.

per designer: I think starting with this is a good idea if you want an introduction to the game systems. Chronologically, the games take place in this order: Primeval Peril, Sleeping Gods, Distant Skies, but I would say that you can play them in any order. The games share some characters and themes, but in my opinion you won't be hurting the experience if you play Distant Skies first, for example. Primeval Peril and Distant Skies have the most in common mechanically. Sleeping Gods is probably the most difficult to learn of the three games. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3196199/play-first Any player can activate equipped card and character abilities during a challenge, even if the characters didn't spend a stamina to "participate." Characters that didn't participate can also discard resources to help in a challenge. The only limitation is that you can't spend resources from the boat board. In the example, yes, the two "participating" characters take damage first. If there is any damage leftover after those characters have reached 0 health, assign it to any other characters. And yes, even if you fail the challenge in the example, you gain the listed reward (the coin and the card). https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3193663/article/43363700#43363700

Fun adventure/exploration game. Finished the game once, don't think we'll dive back into it. The campaign took us about 4 hours. You can tell that the game is streamlined, the story is alright and mostly keeps you engaged. Looking forward to distant skies now
