Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

First impression based on exploring several pages of the Tides of Ruin map is that many of the quests are much more challenging (at least on the pages I'm exploring). Overall, I enjoy having more content, but the additional storybook could've used more proofreading. I also really like having new market items, events, and monsters. I blended everything in from the first play so I'm not sure which items and events are specific to the expansion - but the additional variety is still a big plus. I've played through most of 5 of the Tides of Ruin map pages, so I was able to get a majority of this content explored in one campaign. There's a lot of interesting stuff, though my general impression is it's more risk for generally less reward.
