Sleeping Gods: Primeval Peril
120m - 240m
1 - 2 Players
Ages 13+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

I enjoyed it more than the original sleeping gods. It still isn't quite what Im looking for in this type of game. Combat is better but still feels so abstract, and really the game feels like you roll a die and read a book. Not many interesting decisions to be made. I played through a whole campaign though and it has made me slightly interested in getting Distant Skies.

Interesting story, but... I hate that there's almost no real clue where you should go and how much you can explore before potentially dying... A run of "boat damage" events finished us, mercifully. Still, good thing we got it played in 4h, I wouldn't have liked to play it over several sessions. Overall the Sleeping Gods series is not for me, but I might play it with my son when he grows up a bit more.

I love the combat mechanics in this revised version! I honestly began to love the combat more and more as I upgraded my characters and got some synergistic combat cards! This is a great mini version of SG. This suits me perfectly to still have the exploration feel and playable in a reasonable time. Definitely not bored or done with it after playing a few times. Excited to explore more over a few more campaigns! I only wish there were more puzzles and riddles in exploration as well as chaining of keywords to create branching quests like SG: DS has.
