Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
In storytelling games, players are provided with conceptual, written, or pictorial stimuli which must be incorporated into a story of the players' creation.

About six hours into the game and really enjoying my play thru with the kids (3 player) on our first campaign. The open world and questing is quite fun and the story has been excellent so far. My kids (7 and 9) are really enjoying it and want to keep playing after we find a stopping point. I don't know about the replay value once you've done your first play thru but you surely will not cover or explorer everything on your first pass. I've decided to back the follow-on Distant Skies after my experience with this one. Excellent game experience.

A good game. Writing is in the "somewhat decent" range, which is much better than the majority of board games I've played so far. French translation might partly be at fault. Combat is fun, albeit a bit too punishing for my taste. Exploration and the associated rewards appear random at times, a shame for a game mostly based on moving around, but overall nothing too harsh to the player. The art is gorgeous, it really helps with the immersion. I've made one full game so far, will probably do another, but I doubt I will but the expansion or binge the game.

A wonderful, fun co-operative adventure - with the emphasis on fun and adventure. The world is fascinating and the individual stories/quests are interesting and very different to the usual gaming tropes. Mechanically, it is quite easy to pick up and explain - there's not much rules faff - although there are a few exceptions and edge cases which you have to learn. But for such an expansive game, it's remarkably easy to drop into. Combat is fun and interesting. The rest of the mechanics are simple but effective and facilitate the world exploration, rather than being an end in themselves. You have to be careful with resources, and can run into danger if you're careless, but it's not brutal or unforgiving. It does take up a lot of table space, and it's a bit of a pain to pack up and put away. If you don't have somewhere to leave it out, you may want to think twice - there's a lot to pack up each time. Lastly, I should emphasise that teamwork is embedded into the game. There is *nothing* competitive in the game - everything is geared towards helping the team. Some may miss that, others may not! Super game, have almost finished the first campaign and am looking forward to going on to the second.
