To be fair, I'm not an especially huge fan of the original, although I do play it fairly often. This game, however, is much lower in quality than the original in more ways than one. The new components are made with inferior stock compared to the base game. Additionally, the haunts are very poorly balanced, with some of the haunts' writing to be atrocious. It would appear that the designers did not put forth a lot of effort in the QA of their product.

This expansion makes the core game far better. Some of the haunts I've played were far more unique and balanced. They made player choices more meaningful.

Actively lowers the quality of the game. The new floor doesn't add much. The new rooms double the amount of stat boosts characters can receive. The dumbwaiters trivialize moving throughout the house (and escaping the basement). Also contains a lot of bad Haunts. All of them feel more "thematic" than well designed to be played. And even then they aren't good.
