Tile Placement games feature placing a piece to score VPs, with the amount often based on adjacent pieces or pieces in the same group/cluster, and keying off non-spatial properties like color, "feature completion", cluster size etc.
Tile Placement
This mechanism requires players to select individual actions from a set of actions available to all players. Players generally select actions one-at-a-time and in turn order. There is usually(*) a limit on the number of times a single action may be taken. Actions are commonly selected by the placement of game pieces or tokens on the selected actions. Each player usually has a limited number of pieces with which to participate in the process.

It's good, it just feels superfluous? Feels like this should have been folded into the base game or the expansion -- on its own it's more of a micro-expansion than anything. Still fun, we still use it!

Will rate after receiving & playing 2nd edition coming with the Upstairs/Downstairs expansion kickstarter

❦ Solo Mode // Included in the Base Game ❦ Required Play Space // 24" x 28" ❦ Setup Time // 5 Minutes ❦ Play Time // 45 Minutes ✅ Incorporating the new staff members is very easy, and there isn’t a single best option to choose during setup. ✅ Solo opponents offer varying degrees of difficulty, which often leads to very deep-seated rivalries for lots of fun. ✅ The theme ties into the mechanics beautifully, allowing stories to develop during the course of play. ✅ Play time moves very quickly with important decisions that don’t drag on and a step-by-step sequence to follow. ✅ Artwork isn’t prevalent on a lot of the building tiles, yet the entire game has a beautiful and classic appearance. ✅ Guests come with their own flavor text to help create more stories as the seasons pass and challenges abound. ❌ There is a bit of luck involved with the theme cards, which can greatly affect the outcome of a solo play. ❌ Starting guests can sometimes hinder progress if they offer the same rewards or seem less useful than others. ❌ Objective cards may feel very swingy at times with the different requirements that may be too easy or difficult. ❌ New staff take a little time to get used to in terms of understanding the best situations to use them in.
