Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

A great LCG, with lots of new content coming out all the time. There's some power creep IMHO (both in terms of individual cards and available comboes), but it's not bad, since the game isn't competitive, and the quests get a lot harder over time, too. See main game comment for more info and where I currently am with the game.

I enjoy this adventure very much. It's got a new mechanic where the max threat decreases on a timed counter. So the first half of the game is a race to lower your threat so you don't lose. It was another fresh take on the adventures so that was really enjoyable. One of the features I didn't like about it was the encounter card that had the highest enemy make an immediate attack against the dwarf. This almost caused us to lose at the end of the game except we were able to discard it. Felt a bit unfair when it happened during the game though. Maybe you can actually defend the attack with someone else or with a feint? However, once we did get past it, it became a breeze. It's nice that the difficulty was harder at the start so when we failed it was faster to restart. Can't have them all easy, or them all hard all the way through. I felt this one is at a good place during the cycle.

The fourth cycle of expansions continues adding more awesomeness to Lord of the Rings LCG, in form of new heroes, cards for the decks, and new quests. Trouble in Tharbad contains a bunch of new cards for the players decks, like the new Lore hero Haldir, and the great attachment Lembas. The scenario itself is of average difficulty.
