The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game
1 - 2 Players
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

It is a nice touch that the scenario is highly replayable due to the encounter sets. Actually I like to see more of this. A possible upgrade would be is to have a less random and more "procedural" encounter deck creation like in some games published since (Hellboy for example). As of gameplay, the scenario is pretty hard. I would not miss the competitive part though.

I've only tried this as a traditional scenario, not in competitive mode. It's a bit generic as a scenario, but I like that it's very customizable and quick/easy to play because it's self-contained. I think these attributes will make this, its related Woodland Realm and the similar Escape from Khazad-dum/Mines of Moria boxes good options for deck testing and tuning.
