Ages 13+
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

While I felt that the quests in this deluxe expansion were not nearly as fun and unique as the ones in the previous one (Voice of Isengard) I really do like the new Dunedain player cards and heroes. I'm excited to see the new cycle unfold in the next few months.

Scenarios: - [b]Intruders in Chetwood[/b] - demanding scenario. Violent and putting an enormous time pressure on a player. On top of that EVERY encounter card is really punishing. But beatable :) - [b]The Weather Hills[/b] - very unpleasant scenario. Exploring a location causes surge (most likely an enemy). A weather card causes surge. Encounter side quests cause surge. So much venom and so little wiggle room... Winning the quest brings almost no satisfaction because of the aggressiveness met... - [b]Deadmen's Dike[/b] - I actually enjoyed this scenario the most from this expansion and felt - contrary to a popular belief - to be the easiest one of the three. The undead/sorcerer/spells theme is strong (and the artwork obliges). Although there is nothing very novel in the construction of the scenario itself (unless you consider massive forced discards from your deck to be just that) the creativity comes from the individual encounter cards with unique and imaginative effects. And don't get me wrong. It's not an easy scenario, but the one you can enjoy knowing there is a balance between the challenge and playability (i.e. the lack of constant 'banging against the wall' feeling). And a compelling theme is thrown in skillfully.
