Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Between the inferior artwork, the questionable simulation value, and the link with the narrative more and more stretched in campaign mode (no change of characters in this one, other than Frodo that retakes his place as the shared hero instead of Aragorn...same chaps from Helm's Deep are helping Frodo get into Mordor), I find myself, somewhat strangely, more drawn to the standard adventure cycles than the saga expansions. Still alright, I guess.

Quests: I respect the Saga quests but generally prefer the storylines created for the game. These are good and challenging. There are ways to really tech against them, but that's a fun discovery more than a criticism. Not my favorites of the Sagas, but not a lot of specific criticism from me either. Player Cards: As with most of the Sagas, they are fantastic. The Heroes are a bit niche, but Damrod really makes the dedicated trap strategy feasible. The allies and attachments are great -- key pieces for some decks and/or just great general use cards. Ratings: If I were to rate any expansions to this game in the context of board/card games as a whole, they'd get an 8,9 or 10 because they are part of a game that I give a 10 to overall. However, on a separate scale within just this game system, I'd give this a 7 for the quests and a 9 for the cards.
