Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

Nice flavour to the book, but the quests are very difficult (nigh on impossible when using only the cards from the base set and the game itself) and rely entirely on the draw of the cards. Very average solo game.

The two Hobbit expansions for the LOTR LCG are must-haves for players who love the book, or for anyone trying to build a dwarf deck. This first installment is challenging and fun, and the Hobbit tale comes through reliably. It introduces a new "Hobbit" sphere, "treasure cards" which can only be acquired during quests, and adds important heroes like Thorin and Beorn (bear form!).

I went straight from the core set into this deluxe expansion, hoping to relive in game form one of the favorite books from my youth. Never got past the trolls in the first quest and gave up LotR LCG for good. An excellent expansion since it saved me from another FFG money sink. One gratitude point for that and another one for the art.
