Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

(Easy mode only, baby) The Passing of the Grey Company: At no point in this scenario were we having fun. Even on Easy difficulty, we were destroyed in short order. Seemingly every card increases threat, so this challenge requires a very specific build for success - a build that we have no interest in pursuing. As a side effect, this scenario has resulted in: (1) the LotR LCG being bumped from my top 10 games list (too many issues) and (2) my three-player group wondering if the remaining Saga scenarios are worth attempting. If this is our final LotR experience ever, we're ending on a sour note. The Siege of Gondor: (after a two-month break) A lucky draw and last-minute victory. Also ships. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields: Great implementation of story elements, particular in the stage effects. One of our top 3 scenarios in the saga series. The last two scenarios made up for the unmitigated misery of the first, thankfully. And even on Easy, these were no cakewalk.
