Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

The Dunwich Legacy cycle feel like it doesn't have much meat to the over-all storyline or gameplay compared to the others. While the set-ups of some scenarios are positively stood out (e.g. Essex County Express where the locations lay out as a train), the gameplays are mostly basic; gather clues, be where you need to be, shoot some monsters on the way. If Forgotten Age is exploring and escaping; Dream Eaters is adventuring; Circle Undone is investigating and unraveling; the Path of Carcosa is hiding and seeking; Dunwich Legacy is like taking a train to the next door town. In saying that, the cycle is NOT a waste of time but rather a chill one, which can be appreciated when you're tired of drawing tentacles against a giant spider and losing terribly. The first 2 scenarios of the cycle that comes in this expansion are well-done and very thematic to the settings. and the playable investigators and cards are always a plus.
