Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.

I'm torn on this adventure. From a play perspective this combines one of my favorite mechanics so far (the shifting locations) with one of my least (the exploration deck). What that effectively creates is an adventure that I still like, but which could have easily been amongst the top if it hadn't been marred by the irksome exploration deck. From some early reviews I think people are getting hung up on the idea of actually slam dunking this completely, and that is not supposed to be likely or even very possible. Think of this as a Midnight Masks type scenario where you are intended to do your best and then deal with the results moving forward. The flavor on this one is solid though, and I love the ancient Mexico theme on the locations a lot. They really hit my thematic sweet spot with this one. In terms of player cards: This is kind of lean for my tastes. Enraptured is a solid add to any Mystic deck, but it's not spectacular. High Roller can be used in some Rogue decks to good use, but he's tough in as he's still nowhere near as good as Leo de Luca, but he could be used as a second or third in a Charisma deck, albeit only on lower difficulties where his resource-return trigger actually can happen every so often.

I don't love the exploration mechanism, but I do love the theme of this one. Going into the jungle to find hidden temples with snakes, snake people, and other exotic monsters is a lot of fun.

Highlights: * Atmosphere of switching locations works. It’s thematic. * Scenario is really hard, even on easy difficulty. * Encounter deck has some flavorful cards (Timeline Destabilization). * Final plot twist was awesome. * Cool design of discovering clues and alternative win con. Complains: * Encounter deck has some non-flavorful cards (basically all Cultists). * Scenario has weird doom mechanic - it do not fit to the theme. * Location changing path was fine, but mechanically easy to forget and mot that much flavorful.
