Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Some board games incorporate elements of role playing. It can be that players control a character that improves over time. It can also be a game that encourages or inspires storytelling.
Role Playing
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

So far, the stuff I've seen is ok. If you aren't a completionist, then the cards in this box aren't strictly necessary for your Arkham Horror TCG collection. This box contains minor changes to the existing scenarios from TDL. The box itself is humongous and mostly empty. It's meant to be a storage solution for your Dunwich Legacy cards. The scenario Return to Lost in Time and Space is unnecessarily hard, I think.

In process of playing through, I own these sets more for the variations than for any desired increase to the challenge so I'm not sure that I will even use all of the optional Return to rules included here (particularly on the last scenario, as I quite like it and didn't feel it needed to be any more difficult), but I like having the option. First three scenarios in; this adds some minor variations to the scenarios and the Resurgent Evils set is a nice alteration to the original, but it didn't seem dramatically different. Player cards are a mixed bag, nothing overly special, but the level 2 Rite of Seeking is solid and Rise to the Occasion in awesome for Calvin, who is one of my favorite investigators.
