The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Cable is really fun. Side schemes change the entire game for the better. Pair Cable with a character that relies on a key upgrade, like Ant-Man and his helmet, and it feels powerful and very satisfying to ensure they get the helmet out first thing. No more despair filled games where key cards are buried at the bottom of the deck. I can see this working great with quicksilver and his friction resistance as well. Cable excels at supporting other players and side schemes enhance the feeling of teamwork in multiplayer. Also fantastic for smoothing out the experience for newer players, since as Cable I can play a side scheme that will give them exactly what they need!

I played through the campaign true solo with Domino on expert. The campaign is on the easy side compaired to the other expansion boxes. Domino is really fun and pretty strong, so this might have helped. The player side schemes are a cool new addition, I like them. Juggernaut was a tough villan to beat, after losing a bunch of times I needed to do a little deckbuilding to beat him. Overal a solid campaign box that I can reccommend for Domino and Juggernaut only. I decided a while ago not to collect any of the xmen content so I sold this box after finishing it.

Enjoyable 1st scenario where you need to defend the morlocks, and lose if there are no morlocks in play. Villians seem to hit really hard aswell. Looking forward to the campaign play. Unfortunately after the 1st scenario the story takes a nosedive and the rest of the campaign is fairly forgettable. Mister Sinister was fairy difficult to beat, but otherwise each mission was straightforward. Perhaps it felt so easy because Cable is a really nice support hero allowing my angel deck to really shine?
