The Campaign/Battle Card Driven mechanic is a relatively recent development in war games that focuses the players' actions on cards they have in their hand. The very basic idea is that performing a single action uses a single card. Games where cards are used to determine the outcome of battles do not use this mechanic.
Campaign / Battle Card Driven
Hand management games are games with cards in them that reward players for playing the cards in certain sequences or groups. The optimal sequence/grouping may vary, depending on board position, cards held and cards played by opponents. Managing your hand means gaining the most value out of available cards under given circumstances. Cards often have multiple uses in the game, further obfuscating an "optimal" sequence.
Hand Management
Variable Player Powers is a mechanic that grants different abilities and/or paths to victory to the players.

Had a difficult start with this expansion, thanks to the campain/missions. They make the scenarios extremly dull. Without the campain this box elevates from "Galaxy Most Wanted" to a really good box. Every villain is well designed and offer great mechanics without deluting the game. Both heroes play unique. Villain rating Unus: 7 Four Horseman: 6 Apocalypse: 9 Dark Beast: 8 En Sabah Nur: 10 Champion rating Bishop: 8 Magik: 10 Beste MCDB-Deck: "Resource Tutor" - Justice (Bishop) "Bishop Snipes From 100 Years Away" - Leadership (Bishop) "Devil May Scry!" - Protection (Magik) "To Me, My Hex Men!" - Leadership (Magik) "My Top Deck Brings All the Boys to the Yard" - Aggression (Magik)

The scenarios are great and the heroes are kinda cool, but the campaign mechanic is utter boring nonsense. A lot of wasted potential here. All of them are the same.

Amazing expansion. Apocalypse villains are epic. The new Standard III set and scenarios that challenge traditional chump-blocking strategies are great for the game. Excellent new Leadership cards. Magik and Bishop are refined modern heroes. A great sign of things to come.
